Bangladesh has witnessed a high number of acid attacks since the 1990s, with more than 500 attacks recorded annually in the early 2000’s.
The Acid Survivors Foundation, a charity established in 1999 to help victims in Bangladesh, has helped to reduce the number of attacks there. Survivors have been left severely disfigured and often blind as a result.
