IPS Santosh Kumar Mishra has now been posted at UP’s Ambedkar Nagar district as an SP. The batch 2012 officer who is originally from Bihar had done his mechanical engineering from the US in 2011. He gave up Rs 50 lakh package for civil services and cleared the country’s biggest exam in his first attempt itself. His first posting was in Amroha district.
Santosh says, “I am from Bihar’s Patna district. My father has served the country as an army man but is now retired while my mother is a homemaker and I have three sisters. I did my schooling from Bihar itself and then completed my mechanical engineering from Pune University in 2004.
Soon, I was selected for my first job and was sent to Europe, where I worked for four years. I then moved to the US. I had an annual package of Rs 50 lakh when I was working in New York, Europe and India.”
“But soon, I felt there was something I was missing. ”
“I have always seen my father working hard for the country and had dreamt of doing the same. So, in 2011, I left my job in the US and returned to prepare for the civil services exam for a year. I cleared the exam in 2012.”
The young officer shares anecdote from Amroha district where he was previously posted as an SP.
“A class 5 student had come to me complaining that his friend hadn’t been showing up to school for the last 15 days. I made sure to know what was wrong as no issue is small enough.”
“I tracked down the child and came to know that he had been working in the sweet shop owned by the father. I talked to his father and convinced him to send him to school again.”
“Since October 2017, I had been in Ambedkar Nagar but made sure to visit a government school to spend time with the children. A few days ago, I had visited a primary school….
“I gorged on jalebis with the children and talked to about their favourite subjects and what problems they were facing. I often go to the schools to teach as well. It is my duty to maintain law and order but I also want to contribute in building a good society. ”
