Lord Alan Sugar falls for fake story about Taylor Swift having a swastika tattoo… and the Twitter responses are epic

What with fake news, Cambridge Analytica and Donald Trump’s tweeting, the internet can be a dark and confusing place. It’s difficult to know what’s real and what’s not, and it’s all too easy to be sucked in by a fake story, or an online scam, or even just a satire…

Lord Alan Sugar discovered this the hard way recently, when he fell hook, line and sinker for an article on The Onion.

In light of Kanye West’s recent tweets (in which he discussed how much he admired Donald Trump and shared a picture of himself wearing a Make America Great Again hat), The Onion posted this:

Taylor Swift obviously hasn’t had a swastika tattooed onto her face (it would be a bigger news story than Kanye’s tweets if she had), but Sugar apparently didn’t clock that it was satire.

He tweeted, “eh I don’t get this. Can someone explain is she making a statement or what?”

It would be a very strong statement…

The replies to his tweet are a (pretty funny) mixed bag. They’re divided between outraged people who have also fallen for the story…

..And Onion fans who are kindly pointing out to 71-year-old Sugar that the joke has sailed over his head.

People are finding the whole thing very funny.
