A married Alabama high school teacher and mother of one has been arrested for having a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old male student.
Stephanie Henry Pruett, 28, was arrested by Calhoun County sheriff’s deputies on Thursday.
She is charged with engaging in a sexual act with a student.
News of her arrest was reported by AL.com.
Pruett, a teacher at Weaver High School, taught history to sophomore and juniors.
She also taught a Bible-as-literature class.
The sheriff’s office said it received information Thursday that Pruett first became involved in a sexual relationship with the teen in October.
Investigators interviewed both Pruett and the boy. During the course of the probe, they gathered enough evidence to arrest the teacher.
Pruett is a married mother of a young child. She is alleged to have carried on a sexual relationship with a high school student for five months

Pruett was detained and remanded to the Calhoun County Jail.
If convicted, she faces a maximum of 20 years in prison. Pruett will also be required to register as a sex offender.
Pruett, a resident of Jacksonville, Alabama, is currently on leave with pay.
‘It’s sad that a woman who has a family and went to college to become an educator is giving that all up,’ Calhoun County Sheriff Matthew Wade said.
‘I just don’t understand why she went down that path. It’s very disturbing and troubling.’
