A mother-of-two suffered horrific burns when non-working husband doused her face with acid for getting a job to feed her children. Zakira Ali Sheikh, who is currently undergoing treatment in a hospital in Mumbai, decided to take a part-time job when her husband refused to work at all.
When Zakira landed a job for making soaps, her infuriating husband accused the woman of insulting his honour and locked her inside the house so she could not find help and threw acid on her face.
The pain was excruciating, said the victim before adding that I screamed in agony for 10 minutes before my brother could get inside and help me.
“My children were hurt. I struggled to remain conscious, screaming and screaming, writhing in pain on the floor, begging for water. I tried to reach for water, but Roobab prevented me from doing so. I screamed for over 11 minutes before help came. My brother and the whole neighbourhood heard me, my brother had to break down doors to reach me,” she told.
Zakira was left in unbearable pain, blind in one eye and other eye is closed since the attack occurred earlier in November.
Undergoing treatment at a Mumbai hospital, the victim is now breathing through a pipe which has been inserted into her neck.
A fundraising page, linked here https://www.ketto.org/fundraiser/Zakira has been set up for those who would like pay for her treatment. A sum of Rs 10,79,660 has been donated thus far towards the treatment of the victim.
