In a sickening case of government hospital apathy, a pregnant woman lost her baby soon after the delivery following a thrashing meted out to her by a cruel nurse. The woman was brought to the hospital in Chhattisgarh’s Gattasilli and went into labour.
When 26-year-old Hemlata Sahu was admitted no doctors were present in the hospital for a medical check-up and nurse Uma Patel apprised the family that the delivery will be normal after performing some rudimentary checks on the pregnant woman.
Inside the labour room, Hemlata couldn’t bear the excruciating pain and inadvertently grabbed the arm of the nurse which angered her.
The nurse began hurling abuses at the woman while slapping her relentlessly during the labour and stopped only after deliberately applying unrequired plenty of pressure on her stomach.
Post the disgusting display of apathy, Hemlata’s condition deteriorated enough that her baby died immediately after she gave birth.
Nurse Uma then decided to not even do the stitches required post delivery properly and Hemlata’s condition did not improve even after being discharged.
When the woman was admitted to another hospital where it was learnt that the wrongly done stitches were causing unbearable pain post the delivery.
It is understood that Hemlata was going to become a mother seven years after the her marriage and now the entire family is in the grip of gloom and sadness.
The devastated family now wants appropriate action against those involved and said they will even knock on the door of the district collector with the complaint.
