One person linked to a group involved in Tuesday’s Ujjain-Bhopal train blast has been arrested from Kanpur and another one is holed up in a building in Lucknow where efforts were on to nab him.
Uttar Pradesh DGP Javeed Ahmed told The Hindu, “We have cornered one extremist who is linked to the group involved in the [Bhopal-Ujjain passenger train] blast.”
However, he said, the Madhya Pardesh train blast is nowhere linked to the Kanpur train accident.
PTI quoted U.P. ADGP (Law and Order) Daljit Chaudhary as saying that the “holed up terror suspect might have links with Islamic State”. Mr. Chaudhary, quoted by the news agency, added that two terror suspects were held in Kanpur and one in Etawah.
The Union Home Ministry has sought a report from the Madhya Pradesh Police on Tuesday’s blast in which eight people were injured, two of them seriously.
The blast occurred in a coach between 9.30 a.m. and 10 a.m. when the train was on its way to Ujjain from Bhopal.
