McDonald’s slammed for ‘serving chicken inside veggie wraps’
Customers tucking into new veggie wraps at McDonald’s have encountered one slight problem – they keep being served with chicken.
Vegetarians have slammed the fast-food chain online after numerous people ordering meat-free wraps found they were definitely not meat-free.
McDonald’s admitted the situation is ‘not acceptable’ and has vowed to make sure mistakes are not made again.

Emma Longley, a customer who was served chicken at a branch in Newcastle, wrote online: ‘Just ordered the veggie wrap, turns out you gave me chicken.
‘This is disgraceful. ‘I’m fuming, was so looking forward to this! I’m a strict vegetarian and just took a mouthful of chicken, thanks a lot.’
Student Nikitta Garman had the same experience at a branch in West Bridgford, Nottinghamshire. She said: ‘As I’d not tried it before I was unsure what to expect but after I took a bite it was clear that they had given me a chicken wrap in the box for the vegetarian one.
‘I couldn’t believe such an error could occur, especially being so well-concealed given that it was in the veggie wrap box and looked near identical to the veggie wrap. I am keen on getting the word out… to ensure this doesn’t happen again affecting other people – especially someone who’s a lifelong vegetarian and may react far worse to having meat in their system for the first time!’
Other reports came from London, Birmingham and Bristol, where one person said they were left ‘humiliated and so upset’.

The American fast-food giant is one of the many restaurants expanding their vegetarian menu, launching the new wrap in January with approval from the Vegetarian Society. At the time of its launch McDonald’s spoke of being ‘thrilled’ to give customers further menu choices.
The £2.99, 364-calorie product is described as: ‘Red pesto veggie goujons with spicy relish, tomato, lettuce and red onion in a soft, toasted tortilla wrap.’ McDonald’s said: ‘We absolutely recognise that it is not acceptable to serve meat when our vegetarian product has been ordered, and we would like to apologise to any customer who has experienced this.
‘We have a number of procedures to avoid inaccurate orders and after we saw mistakes were being made, we introduced a number of additional measures. This action has led to an increase in order accuracy.’
